Lewis Hamilton likely to retire from F1 at season’s end

Lewis Hamilton is ‘likely’ to retire from F1 at the end of the current season, reports BritPanorama. The British driver, now 41, has claimed seven titles throughout his illustrious career, mirroring the achievements of his childhood hero, Michael Schumacher.

Hamilton has been pursuing a record eighth crown since narrowly missing out in controversial circumstances in 2021 when Max Verstappen emerged victorious. After a difficult debut season with Ferrari, Hamilton has shown flashes of his previous brilliance, yet finds himself outpaced by Kimi Antonelli, George Russell, and Charles Leclerc in the standings after three races.

The current Ferrari contract of the veteran racer is set to expire this winter, fueling speculation that he may retire. According to reports, Hamilton is ‘likely’ to step back from the sport once his contract concludes. While some drivers continue their careers into their 40s, Fernando Alonso still racing strong at 44 serves as a notable exception.

This season has posed challenges for Hamilton, who has struggled in races held in Australia, China, and Japan. Conversely, Red Bull is also adapting to new regulations, which has left Verstappen expressing frustration, yet he remains committed to his team. He has communicated a need for big changes to regain their former competitive edge.

In March, Hamilton mentioned his ambition to race in an F1 event in Africa before ending his career, stating, “I don’t want to leave the sport without having a grand prix there.” Significantly, he seems determined to see this ambition materialize amid his plans for retirement.

This prospect of retirement marks the potential end of a remarkable era in Formula 1, echoing the mixed emotions athletes face when considering their legacy and future. Hamilton’s contributions to the sport will undeniably leave a lasting impact, continuing to resonate in the world of racing long after he has stepped back from the grid. For now, fans and analysts alike will be tuned in to witness how this season unfolds for him.
